The incident occurred as students and job aspirants were participating in a protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The protest has been continuing for several days, with demonstrators demanding greater transparency and action over their concerns regarding the examination process.

According to reports, Bora was participating in the march when a man emerged from the crowd and allegedly threw ink at her. Police intervened immediately and detained the alleged attacker.

The man was identified by police as Amarnath Pandey. According to a report citing police officials, he was being questioned at Dhurwa police station and no FIR had been registered at that point because authorities had not received a formal complaint.

The incident quickly became more than an isolated confrontation. It triggered a political exchange between AISA representatives and their opponents, with competing claims emerging about the motivation behind the attack.

'Anti-national' allegation becomes centre of controversy

Reports said the detained man accused Bora of being “anti-national” and referred to her alleged support for jailed activist Umar Khalid. The accusation, however, represents the statement attributed to the accused and should not be treated as an established fact.

Bora rejected the attempt to intimidate her and said that the incident would not stop her from participating in student movements. She described the attack as part of an effort to silence the broader student movement.

AISA representatives alleged that the attacker was politically backed and described him as a BJP-aided individual. Those allegations have also not been independently established by police at the time of reporting.

The competing claims have added another layer to an already politically charged student agitation.
